FOURTH SUNDAY IN ADVENT

December, 18. 

Third Sunday in Advent, Sd., Purple. Privileged Sunday of the Second Class. At Matins: Invitatory of the III Sunday with proper antiphons for the Sunday psalms and seasonal versicles for all three nocturns, no Te Deum. At Lauds: antiphons proper w/ Psalms of Lauds 1, no Suffr., no Preces.. At Prime: first antiphon from Lauds,  Dominical Preces. At the Hours: antiphons from Lauds, Chapters from proper. At Mass: Rorate caeli, no Gloria, 2nd  oration of St. Mary, 3rd oration for the Church (as for Advent I), Creed is said, Pref. of Trinity. II Vespers: of Advent IV, antiphon on Magnificat “O Clavis David.” Daily Vespers is followed by the Vespers of the Dead. At Compline of Sunday, Dominical Preces.

Vigil of St. Thomas

December, 19.

In the Office nothing is said of the Vigil.

Monday – Vigil of St. Thomas, S. Violet. At Matins: all as in the Ordinary & Psalter, occurrent Scripture. no Te Deum. At Lauds: antiphons are proper (p. C28) & psalms of Lauds 2. Ferial Preces. Matins & Lauds of the Dead are saidAt Prime and the Hours: Ferial Preces. At Mass: (after None for the Vigil), Ego autem, no Gloria, 2nd. oration of Our Lady (for Advent), 3rd oration For the Church. Alleluia and verse are omitted, no Credo, Common Preface. At Vespers: 1st Vespers of St. Thomas using Common 2 for what is not given as proper w/commem. of Feria (Ant. on Magnificat “O Oriens”). Compline: of Sunday, no Preces.

SAINT THOMAS THE APOSTLE

December, 20.

Tuesday – Feast St. Thomas, Double, II Class, Red. At Matins: all as for the Feast using Common 2 for what is not given in the Proper. Lesson iv is from the Proper of the Saints. Te Deum is said. At Lauds: all as for the Feast using Common 2 for what is not given as proper. Versicles & antiphon on Benedictus p. E43 w/commem. of the Feria. No Preces. At Prime and the Hours: of the feast. At Mass: (after Terce) Mihi autem nimis, Gloria, 2nd oration of the Feria, Gradual & Alleluia, Credo,  Preface of the Apostles. At Vespers: 2nd Vespers of the Feast using Pss, ants, & chapter from Common rest as in the Proper for both Vespers w/commem. of the Feria (using “O Rex gentium” as antiphon). At Compline: as on Sunday, no Preces.

Feria Quarta

December, 21.

Wednesday – Advent Feria, Purple. At Mattins: all as in the Ordinary & Psalter, occurrent Scripture, no Te Deum. At Lauds: antiphons & psalms of Lauds 2. Ferial Preces, At Prime and the Hours: Ferial Preces. At Mass: (after None, of the previous Sunday), no Gloria, 2nd. oration of St. Mary (as in Advent), 3rd oration For the Church.. Alleluia and verse are omitted, no Credo, Common Preface. Vespers: of the Feria, Ferial Preces.  At Compline: Preces are said.

VIGIL of CHRISTMAS

December, 24.

Saturday – Vigil of Christmas,Privileged Vigil of the 1st Class, Purple. At Matins: (the office of Matins is of simple rite), all as for the Vigil p. C45-46. At Lauds: (the offise continues as of double rite), psalms of Sunday, rest as on p. C46-47. At Prime & Hours: all as on p. C47. At Mass: (after None), Hodie scietis, only one collect, Gradual & Alleluia, Common Preface.

There will be a separate Ordo for Christmas.
