Lectionary for Week VIII after Trinity


Based on Fr. Pius Parsch’s selections.

Sunday: 1 Kings 9 ~ God appears to Solomon a second time.

Monday: 1 Kings  10 ~ The Queen of Sheba visits Solomon.

Tuesday: 1 Kings  11, 1-14 ~ Solomon’s infidelity and the breaking up of the Kingdom.

Wednesday: 1 Kings 11, 26-43 The end of Solomon and the beginning of Roboam.

Thursday: 1 Kings 12 – Roboam and the division of the Kingdom.

Friday 1Kings 14 – Jeroboam becomes king of Israel; his rejection.

Saturday 1 Kings 18: The prophet Elijah, the famine, and the death of the priests of Baal.

For Saturday Evening

“When the Lord took up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, Elisha cried, saying: My father, thou art like as the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof.”

In the coming week, the ninth after Trinity, we will be traveling the scriptural/liturgical journey with the prophets Elijah and his disciple Elisha. The vespers antiphon for the Saturday before the ninth Sunday after Trinity introduces them to us.
