Ordo First Week of October

Sunday October 2, Trinity XV

Because this Sunday falls after September 28 the propers for the Fifth Week of September are passed over this year:

However it should be noted that when Epiphanytide is short, Scripture is to be omitted in accordance with the weeks that are lacking; and this is true also of Trinitytide as regards the weeks shortly before August, and from August onwards also, in which latter period special Rubrics govern the omissions of Lessons for certain weeks of the month.

Anglican Breviary, Concerning the Reassignment of Impeded Scripture and its Responsories,  p. xl.

Which is applied in the special Rubrics on p. C603 as follows:

Note that when Sunday falls on or after Sept. 28, there is no V Sunday of September, for the said Sunday is then reckoned as the I Sunday of October; in which case everything that here follows, if it have not already been said, is passed over, as far as Table 5 of Matins Responds;

Which means that everything pertaining to the Fifth Week of September on p. C603 – C610 is passed over. This also means that on Friday 30-ieth of September the I Nocturn Lessons should have been the Beginning of the Book of Esther, and yesterday’s Mattins readings should have been the readings given on p. C610:

When this day [Thursday in the Fourth Week of September] after Sept. 24th, this week is the last one in the month; in which case at Matins tonight is begun the Book of Esther, with its RR, as hereafter set down for the Vth Sunday of September, and it is also read on the two following days, but on those days the Lessons are for Friday and Saturday respectively, unless the Sunday Lessons must be transferred to one of those days.

Note on p. C600

That Thursday was of course occupied by the Feast of St. Michael and so the Beginning of Esther should have been moved up one day. In that I have lead you all astray …
